crime reporter,barmingham(weastar times/BBC):::Police were called to a property in Farndon Road, Alum Rock, Birmingham, shortly after 15:10 GMT.
The woman was taken to hospital from the address but was pronounced dead just before 16:00.
West Midlands Police said a man believed to be 37 years old was arrested on suspicion of murder in the Sparkhill area of the city.
Farndon Road has been sealed off for forensic examinations.
Ch Insp Wayne Jones said: "Although we're clearly at a very early stage in the investigation it's believed the victim may have known her attacker."
