Four men wearing balaclavas and armed with what appeared to be a handgun and a knife have broken into a house in Redditch, police have said.
West Mercia Police said the men entered the house in Poplar Road, Batchley, at about 21:15 GMT on Wednesday, demanding money and drugs from the occupant.
The men were believed to have got into a car in Cherry Tree Walk, a spokesman said.
Police said it appeared it was "not a random incident".
Det Insp Leighton Harding said: "We want to reassure members of the public that it appears this was not a random incident, and that the offenders and the occupant may be known to each other."
"High visibility patrols" will remain in the area throughout the day, he added.
