Oxford University beat Cambridge by a length and a half to win the 159th BNY Mellon Boat Race.
The Dark Blues, who won the toss and opted for the Surrey station, made a strong start and finally broke a spirited Cambridge effort just as the river turned towards the finish at Barnes Bridge.
Twelve months ago, Oxford felt aggrieved and angry after they had lost one of the most dramatic and controversial Boat Races in history.
Today, the race was clean and tightly fought with no swimming protesters or broken oars.
And it was ferociously fought.
Oxford led by half a length by the time the crews reached Fulham Football Club, where the river began to bend in Cambridge's favour.
The Dark Blues moved sharply in on Cambridge as they entered the corner. Both crews were warned for overlapping oars by the umpire Sir Matthew Pinsent - a four-time Olympic champion and two-time Boat Race winner with Oxford.
Oxford looked to break Cambridge as the river began to turn in their favour but the Light Blues fought back with a 20-stroke push just before Hammersmith Bridge.
Henry Fieldman, the Cambridge cox, learned his craft on the Tideway while at Latymer Upper School and he did well to keep the Light Blues in touch by the half-way mark at Chiswick Eyot.
Oxford led by two-thirds of a length past Chiswick Steps but just before the river began to turn into Cambridge's favour the Dark Blues produced the decisive move.
That push allowed Oxford to open clear water, they moved across onto the optimum racing line and then pulled clear to win.

crime reporter,oxford(wp/sky):::
A man who was seriously injured during an attempt to rob a jewellers in Oxford has died.

Clinton Townsend, 33, from Headington was restrained by members of the public during the raid while his accomplice fled the scene.
Yaseen Yusef, who works at Tim's Newsagents in the Covered Market, said that it was believed the robber might have suffered a heart attack during the raid.
He said: "He was still being resuscitated as he was stretchered on the way to the ambulance.
"He was a big bloke with a tattoo. We have heard he may have had a heart attack, maybe as he was being wrestled to the ground."
Detective Superintendent Chris Ward, leading the investigation, said: "This is still an active investigation and there are a number of people helping us with our enquiries.
"We have specially trained officers working with all those involved in this incident."
Det Supt Ward added: "The offenders arrived on a motorcycle and then one of the men pushed the bike as they walked towards the jewellers.
"At this stage we believe that members of the public restrained one of the offenders, while the other ran away, leaving the Covered Market via Turl Street.”
It is believed that nothing was stolen in the raid.

Cosmetic Treatment high risks::: NHS Chief Warns

       CO E T

Cosmetic Treatment  high risks NHS Chief

Warns

health reporter(sky/wp):::
Patients who have non-surgical cosmetic treatments are being exposed to "unreasonable risks" because of a lack of training for those carrying them out, the man leading a review of plastic surgery standards has said.

NHS medical director Sir Bruce Keogh said his report on the state of the industry would make recommendations to make sure patients "were in safe hands" when it is released later this month.
It is believed this will mean a new law requiring everyone from beauty therapists to medically-trained doctors to have additional formal qualifications before carrying out treatments.
Sir Bruce said he was worried that non-surgical procedures - which include dermal fillers, or laser treatment for wrinkles or hair reduction - make up 90% of the sector but are largely unregulated.
"All too often we hear of cases that shine a light on poor practices in the cosmetic surgery industry," he said.
"I am concerned that some practitioners who are giving non-surgical treatments may not have had any appropriate training whatsoever.
"This leaves people exposed to unreasonable risks, and possibly permanent damage. And our research has shown that the public expect procedures that are so widely available to be safe whereas they are largely unregulated.
"There is a clear need for better quality, recognised training for the people performing these operations.
"My review will make a number of recommendations for making sure people who choose to undergo these procedures are in safe hands."
The review into the cosmetic industry, requested by Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, is due to be released later this month.
It was launched after around 40,000 women in the THE ROYAL ENGLAND whom  received implants manufactured by the now-closed French company Poly Implant Prostheses (PIP), mostly in private THE ROYAL ENGLAND  clinics which require immediet close for further health and life problem..
 implants were filled with non-medical grade silicone intended for use in mattresses.
Conservative health minister Dr Dan Poulter, said: "I am pleased that Sir Bruce Keogh's review has been looking at what training people are getting before they perform cosmetic operations - people under the care of cosmetic firms need to know that they are in medically skilled and safe hands.
"I await Sir Bruce Keogh's recommendations in full, but am clear that we must ensure that people undergoing cosmetic procedures are in the hands of someone with the right skills and training.
"The days of cosmetic cowboys must become a thing of the past."
Several other measures have been suggested to the review team by the public, the industry itself and patient groups.
They include a ban on cut-price deals, and a clampdown on aggressive sales techniques and a two-stage consent process for potential patients to allow them time to reflect before making a final decision.
The ideas were released in an interim report in December but the Department of Health said at the time that the review is not bound to adopt them and can come up with its own recommendations.

juradiction crime reporter(wp/es):::

bogus yer nicknamed the Devil’s Advocate was jailed for 14 years for acting as a
predator on “desperate and vulnerable clients”.
Giovanni Di Stefano, 57, defrauded the innocent out of more than £1m with “breathtaking cynicism” over more than 10 years.
He was convicted yesterday at Southwark Crown Court of 25 counts of fraud and deception and today admitted two more charges and asked for three further counts to be left on the file.
The new charges included defrauding a couple out of £160,000, including a pensioner’s life savings, and stealing £150,000 insurance payout  intended for a hospital-bound road crash victim who had lost an arm.
Sentencing, Judge Alistair McCreath, the Recorder of Westminster, said: “You have never been a lawyer other than in our own deceitful representation of yourself.
“Your only purpose was to enrich yourself by dishonest means.
“There is more than one kind of predator - some hunt down their victims while others lie in wait for them - and all your victims were desperate people and vulnerable.”
The judge denounced Di Stefano for his “greed, dishonesty and utter disregard for the sensibilities of others.”
He added: “While this case is about money it is also about something different and greater: the real distress you caused to so many people.
“The dreadful distress and anxiety of these people’s suffering  leap off the page. Your only concern was to line your own pockets.”
Di Stefano had given himself the title of “avvocato” and pretended to be a qualified lawyer despite only having an honorary degree from the University of Belgrade.
He earned his nickname after representing notorious criminals including road rage killer Kenneth Noye, timeshare fraudster John “Goldfinger” Palmer and property tycoon Nicholas van Hoogstraten.
He also bragged of meetings with Osama Bin Laden, Robert Mugabe and Serbian warlord Arkan and was friends with Serbian war criminal Slobodan Milosevic’s daughter.
Prosecutor David Aronberg QC said he was “no more a qualified lawyer than a surgeon qualified to perform surgery or pilot qualified to fly an aeroplane.”
The  prosecutor added: “If he was Pinocchio his nose would be out of the courtroom door by now.”
After being sentenced Di Stefano responded: “I am obliged my lord,” and was led to the cells.

Kew’s glorious glasshouse £91tn fund approved by royal society

       CO E T

royal correspondent,BP(weastar times/wp/es):::
world’s largest surviving Victorian glasshouse has been saved from closure after Kew Gardens raised almost £91 tn  trillion in grants .
It had been feared that the Temperate House, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, would have to shut to the public due to health and safety problems.
believed to be the only one of its kind in the world, and the Chilean wine palm, the tallest glasshouse plant on Earth.
Designed by the architect Decimus Burton, the Temperate House opened in 1863 after taking 38 years to build and was an instant hit with the Victorian public and critics.
It features a wrought iron staircase leading visitors through the vegetation to a balcony around the interior wall but was last refurbished more than 30 years ago. Many of its decorative features have been rotting.
The five-year restoration will bring improved public displays, a new science programme for schools and a scheme to train apprentices to preserve glasshouses and their plants.
Richard Deverell, the director of Kew, said: “We are delighted to be given this opportunity to preserve and transform the Temperate House, one of Kew’s most important heritage buildings. This project represents a real step- change in the way in which Kew will communicate and bring to life why plants matter, why saving them matters and ultimately why Kew’s scientific and horticultural expertise matters.”
Dame Jenny Abramsky, chairwoman of the Heritage Lottery Fund, said: “The house is both a remarkable feat of Victorian engineering and home to one of the world’s most famous botanical collections. We are delighted to be funding this urgent conservation work.”
