Police seized an 80 kilogram haul of cocaine with a potential street value of £12 million when they stopped a van in Essex yesterday.
The swoop on the van was the culmination of a six-month investigation into the “top echelon” of organised crime in the North West of England, police said.
Eight people were arrested in connection with the operation in a series of co-ordinated raids in Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and on the van, which was pulled over in Chelmsford.
